St. Anthony of Padua offers a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities for students. The clubs and activities listed are the current programs available with more clubs being added throughout the year. Since we believe extracurricular activities enhance student life, we are always open to suggestions to add more opportunities for our students.
Art
The art club meets in grade-level sessions throughout the year and focuses on a variety of techniques. Students use materials and processes not available during school-day art classes. The work is displayed for all to enjoy.
Board Game Club
Students in grades 1, 2, and 3 meet once a month to play engaging board games such as Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders with their friends. This activity helps children develop problem-solving, cognitive, and social skills.
Cantors
The student cantor group is open to students in grades 5 through 8. Being a student cantor helps students strengthen their vocal ability and build vocal independence through various vocal warm-ups, songs, and part singing. Student cantors receive small-group instruction on assigned mornings as well as join together for group rehearsals a couple days a month. The student cantors lead the songs for Mass, do community outreach by singing at area nursing homes, and prepare a diverse repertoire for school concerts. Cantors also have the opportunity to sing with State Honors Choirs and participate in the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Solo and Ensemble Contests.
Culinary Club
Fifth and sixth graders meet on a monthly basis to learn basic culinary terms and techniques while making delicious food for their families and friends. (The foods are a secret from month to month.) Culinary club teaches creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
Drama—Spring Musical
St. Anthony School works in collaboration with area Catholic schools to create a unique theater experience where students get to expand their network of friends by collaborating with others with the same interests as them. Auditions for the musical are typically open to students in grades 6, 7, and 8 from the participating schools. Sometimes auditions are open to fourth and fifth grade students as well. Being part of the musical cast allows students to build stage presence, gain an understanding of what goes into preparing a musical, and build on their dance, acting, and vocal ability in a musical theater setting. Students in grades 6 through 8 can apply to be part of the crew if they choose not to audition for the cast. Being part of the crew allows students to explore their artistic and leadership abilities. Students on crew help build the set, paint and construct props, and serve as stage hands during the show. As a part of the stage crew, students will help with scene changes, microphone changes, lighting, curtains, and making sure props are where they need to be. Being involved in the spring musical teaches students independence and accountability.
Instrumental Music
Partnered with the Padua Franciscan High School music program, St. Anthony of Padua offers private lessons for band and orchestra. Students in grades 4 through 8 are eligible for orchestra, and students in grades 5 through 8 are eligible for band. Students in band and orchestra perform in winter and spring concerts held at Padua High School.
Morning Broadcast Crew
The morning broadcast crew consists of middle school students. These students are responsible for producing our live morning announcements, which are aired every morning in the classrooms.
Service Club
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 meet monthly to work on various projects to benefit groups within the community. In October, the club collected new socks for the City Mission, and in November, club members sent letters to local veterans. In addition, the service club collected extra Halloween candy to donate to the West Side Catholic Center, and the club plans to paint benches for the school during the spring.
